The I-DEST program provides solution proposals not only for destinations and regional tourism collaborations in the fields of information and entertainment, auditing and planning, as well as monitoring, but also specifically for heritage tourism sites.

The preservation of local values, value-centered community identity, and community development are crucial tasks for museums and other heritage tourism sites (e.g., castles, visitor centers). By fulfilling these roles, they become key players in enhancing societal sustainability through strengthening community resilience. The cultural tourism experts of the I-DEST development team have designed the I-DEST heritage and cultural tourism services to comprehensively support the professional activities of museums, castles, and visitor centers.

Measuring sustainability based on international heritage tourism standards

In recent years, due to the social image-shaping role of exhibition venues, research shows that visitors have increasingly set expectations for the sustainability services of these venues, whose communication is at least as important as the service itself.

The sustainability indicator system developed by I-DEST graphically presents the suitability of the exhibition sites for reaching SDGs and increasing economic, social and environmental sustainability. By filling out a simple data sheet, each exhibition site can map where it has gaps that can easily be filled, and how its level of sustainability compares to other similar exhibition sites.

And if they want to be transparent to their visitors, the results can be published on I-DEST, and the collection can be included in the MUST HAVE programs of guests interested in sustainable tourism.

The I-DEST program helps to ensure that the compliance of the exhibition site with various horizontal aspects becomes transparent. Thanks to its built-in audit system, strengths and weaknesses become visible immediately after an easy-to-fill questionnaire, making decision making and development plans easier.

The questionnaire serves as a check-list, which contains all the questions in order to meet the horizontal expectations at the international level as well.

After filling out the questionnaire, it becomes visible to what extent the horizontal compliance level of the exhibition site differs from the index of other attractions and tourist services in the area, which is useful information in the communication of the exhibition site.
