AllAdventure with Responsibility
We believe that travel can be a transformative and positive experience for both travelers and the destinations they visit. However, with great adventures comes great responsibility.
Sustainability, simply put, means making choices that have a positive impact on the environment, local communities, and society as a whole. We aim to travel in a way that leaves the world in a better condition than we found it. At I-DEST, we are committed to helping you make informed decisions that align with these principles.
As you explore the services featured on this page, you will discover how our partners strive for sustainability. We will show you their level of sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) they support. But this is about more than just symbols and labels. Sustainability is a journey in itself, and we are here to accompany you every step of the way. Discover how you can travel responsibly, minimize your environmental footprint, support local cultures, and contribute to a better world.

AllMake an informed decision!
Choosing sustainable destinations and services plays a crucial role in ensuring that travel is not just an experience but also a force for positive change. By opting for sustainable destinations, we can reduce our ecological footprint, as these locations are committed to protecting natural resources, improving energy efficiency, and minimizing waste. Supporting local communities allows travelers to directly contribute to strengthening the local economy, creating jobs, and preserving cultural heritage. As a result, travel offers not only authentic experiences for visitors but also long-term benefits for local communities.
How Do We Measure Sustainability?
At i-dest.com, sustainability in tourism is assessed through a transparent methodology aligned with internationally recognised principles. The evaluation is based on the criteria of the GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council), which examine environmental, social, economic and governance aspects, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). All destinations, attractions and service providers are assessed using a unified framework. The results are presented through a 1–4 level sustainability rating, offering a quick and comparable overview of overall performance, while also showing percentage scores by thematic area to highlight strengths and areas for improvement.
In addition to numerical and visual indicators, I-DEST places strong emphasis on clear, accessible explanations. For each location, we describe what the destination or service provider actively does to support sustainability—such as nature conservation, support for local communities or responsible operations—and what visitors can do to make conscious, environmentally and socially responsible choices during their travels.

The future of tourism hinges on 3 words – but most people overlook them 2026 February 01 We often talk about sustainable tourism as if it were solely a matter of technology, regulations, or "green" solutions. In the article, Vanguelis Panayotis, who is involved in the management of the Tourism Transition Pathway and leads the subgroups on "Resilience" and "Skills & Inclusion" under the Together for EU Tourism (T4T) initiative, shares his insights.

What have we learned from 2025? Sustainable tourism trends that will define 2026 2025 December 31 By 2025, tourism had in many ways "returned" to its peak: according to the UN Tourism World Tourism Barometer, international tourist arrivals increased by 5% in the first nine months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, and exceeded 2019 levels by 3%. However, this surge highlighted an important point: growth alone is not the goal. The real question is how destinations can remain liveable for locals while staying attractive to travellers. The following trends are based on the experiences of 2025 and are expected to gain further momentum in 2026 – not just in theory, but in very practical decisions: what guests choose, how providers prepare, and what tools destinations can use to manage the pressure more effectively.

Sustainable hotel: why is a 'green towel programme' not enough? 2025 December 19 When we talk about sustainable hotels, most people immediately think of signs saying "we only change towels on request," recycling bins, or messages like "let's save water." These are useful steps, but the reality is far more exciting: a recent hotel study revealed one of the most important lessons – sustainability is not the responsibility of just one department. It's not just the cleaners, not just the maintenance team, and not just management – every part of the hotel contributes to reducing (or potentially increasing) the environmental impact.

“Experience over gifts” – a sustainable experience gift guide 2025 December 14 In December, it’s easy to fall into the trap of last-minute gift hunting: objects, wrapping, courier boxes, unnecessary compromises.
