Csíkszereda

Miercurea Ciuc, the capital of Harghita County and one of the most important cultural centres of the Székely Land, is an ideal destination for those seeking natural beauty, authentic Székely traditions, and active recreation. The town is situated in the Eastern Carpathians, at the foot of the Nagy-Hagymás mountain range, at an altitude of 650 metres above sea level – the surrounding mountains, springs, and forests offer a unique microclimate and diverse hiking opportunities. The Mikó Castle and the Székely Museum of Csík, located in the town centre, provide fascinating insights into the region's history and cultural heritage. The surrounding villages and countryside preserve traditional folk architecture, shepherding, and craftsmanship, which remain vibrant elements of the region's tourist offerings. Additionally, Csíksomlyó attracts tens of thousands of pilgrims annually with its famous Pentecost pilgrimage, while Harghita Băi and Madarasi Harghita offer excellent opportunities for winter sports enthusiasts. Annual events such as the Day of a Thousand Székely Girls, City Days, the Csíki Jazz Festival, the Early Music Festival, and many others showcase the richness of the cultural life. From a tourism perspective, Miercurea Ciuc is placing increasing emphasis on sustainability and climate-conscious operations. The local government supports railway transport and cycling infrastructure, as well as prioritising service providers offering products made from local ingredients. Several accommodations have already launched their own sustainability programmes, which include waste reduction, the use of renewable energy, and educating guests about environmental awareness.
