The aim of i-dest.com is to highlight how tourism can become more environmentally friendly, responsible, and sustainable. On our website, you’ll discover destinations and tourism services that prioritise sustainability. We strive to help you easily identify which locations and providers support sustainable development, environmental protection, and the well-being of local communities.
i-dest.com places a strong focus on sustainable tourism, offering detailed insights into the sustainability levels of destinations and tourism services.
How is sustainability indicated on i-dest.com?
On our website, we show how each destination and service aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals – such as conserving nature, using clean energy, or supporting local economies – help illustrate how committed a destination or service is to sustainability.
Additionally, we use a separate system to display the level of sustainability, which is based on the Green Destinations certification system, developed in line with the standards of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).
Destinations are assessed using our own system, which is based on the Green Destinations certification framework.
Tourism service providers are evaluated using our system, developed in line with the Good Travel Seal programme.
This information is available at the bottom of each destination’s page and is shown as a percentage, indicating how well the destination meets each criterion.
The I-DEST.COM own summarised sustainability indicator
On the website, you’ll find a clover-shaped icon system for each destination, summarising the sustainability level of that destination or service.
- 1 leaf (40-60%): First steps – the destination has begun its journey towards sustainability.
- 2 leaves (60-75%): Conscious development – consistently working towards more sustainable practices.
- 3 leaves (75-90%): Exemplary – the destination makes significant contributions to achieving sustainability goals.
- 4 leaves (over 90%): Most sustainable – destinations and providers leading the way, fully embodying sustainability.
You’ll find the icons in the top-right corner of each destination or provider’s page, giving you an instant overview of their sustainability level.
