Vésztő

Vésztő’s history stretches back thousands of years, with the area having been inhabited since ancient times. The town’s most significant historical site is Vésztő-Mágor, where the twin mounds have revealed remains of human cultures dating back several millennia. One of the mounds is home to the ruins of the 11th-12th century Csolt Monastery, built by the Csolt clan of the Vata tribe. The monastery's ruins have been partially reconstructed and can now be seen at the Vésztő-Mágor Historical Memorial Site. Excavations on the other mound have uncovered Neolithic finds, offering fascinating insights into prehistoric life. The site is surrounded by the natural environment as it was before the regulation of the Sebes-Körös River, further enhancing the visitor experience.
