“Here I sit on a glittering cliff” – writes Attila József in his famous Ode, inspired by the Lillafüred Palace Hotel. Lillafüred, the neo-Renaissance hotel on the shores of Lake Hámor, has been an iconic destination for generations. The Palace Hotel opened its doors in 1930 and quickly became a favourite retreat for the elite of the time. The hotel is reminiscent of King Matthias’s hunting lodges, with its stunning hanging gardens and medieval-style bastions. In its heyday, the hotel hosted conferences, diplomatic events, and welcomed celebrities; part of the 1934 film “Meseautó” was even filmed here. After the war, the Palace Hotel operated as a SZOT holiday resort, but from the 2010s onwards, significant developments restored its former glory. In 2015, it became part of the National Treasury of Values, and today it is a popular destination for couples and families seeking romance and relaxation. The hotel’s unique atmosphere is enhanced by its vintage furniture, stained glass windows, and the special charm of its tower rooms. During your stay in Lillafüred, there are plenty of activities to enjoy: romantic walks in the hanging gardens, boating on Lake Hámor, exploring the caves, or even a nostalgic ride on the narrow-gauge train. The Palace Hotel’s historical exhibition and the chairlift ride over the forest offer unique experiences. Whether in winter or summer, relaxation is guaranteed, as Lillafüred enchants its visitors in every season.
