Additional information
The Szeleta Park Visitor Center invites visitors on a journey through time, where history and nature’s wonders converge. Opened in December 2023, it is the newest and largest exhibition site of the Bükk National Park, offering unique experiences for both young and old. The large mammoth statue at the entrance hints at a trip back to the Ice Age. The center is named after the nearby Szeleta Cave, a key site in Hungarian prehistoric research. Inside, the exhibition "Millennial Secrets of the Bükk Caves" explores the geology and ancient history of the Bükk Mountains. Visitors can learn about prehistoric human life, the Szeleta culture, and see original stone tools. Interactive displays allow visitors to understand how caves formed and how karst water systems work, while a spectacular LED wall showcases the impressive world of Bükk’s caves. The journey through time includes encounters with mammoth tusks, cave lions, and a life-sized statue of a cave bear. The ceiling projection of a starry night sky evokes ancient times, while also educating about the harmful effects of light pollution. Children can enjoy unforgettable moments in the Stone Age Karst Adventure play area, where they can cross hanging bridges and try their hand at archaeology. Adjacent to the visitor center, a herb garden, geological park, and the Szinva Nature Trail await nature enthusiasts.
