The Park System of Miskolctapolca

The park system of Miskolctapolca is an arboretum-like area rich in native species, located next to the Miskolctapolca Cave Bath.

Its central feature is the boating lake, which has several islands. One of these is the "Island of Love," associated with the legend of eternal love.

The lake was fed by an 18°C spring, which is the source of the Hejő Stream. One of the lake's main attractions during the warmer seasons is the blooming water lilies. Along the water, you can find the interesting alder fen vegetation and the surrounding old pedunculate oak trees.

The Miskolctapolca park, developed from the forest of the Árpád-era abbey, was planted with exotic trees and shrubs in the 1920s, making it a unique natural treasure under environmental protection.

In 2023, the ancient park next to the Miskolctapolca Cave Bath underwent a complete renovation. The redevelopment included the renewal of walking paths, utility networks, and public lighting, as well as the planting of approximately 30,000 plants. The park was also enriched with new attractions: miniature bronze sculptures, interactive information boards, and wooden play sculptures await visitors.

The bronze sculptures showcase the tourism and cultural values of Miskolc, as well as the characteristic wildlife of the city and its surroundings. A unique feature of their placement is that they invite visitors to a kind of "treasure hunt": those who find all the sculptures can also discover the hidden treasures of the Miskolctapolca park.

Among the sculptures, visitors can find a miniature statue of Mancs, the legendary rescue dog of Miskolc, a figure of a Benedictine monk evoking the sacred past of the region, and the swans that have been associated with the Miskolctapolca boating lake for decades. Notable landmarks such as the miniature replicas of the Avasi Lookout Tower and the Diósgyőr Castle are also featured.
