Siculeni Massacre Memorial
The Siculeni Massacre Memorial (Siculicidium Memorial) stands in the centre of Siculeni, Harghita County, and pays a fitting tribute to one of the most tragic events in Székely history. The monument preserves the names and sacrifices of the victims of the massacre that occurred at dawn on 7 January 1764, when imperial troops launched a surprise attack, killing hundreds of defenceless Székelys who were protesting against the forced military service and conscription into the border guard imposed by Maria Theresa.
