The Choice - A joint performance by Réka Tenki and Sándor Csányi
A presentation based on the global bestseller The Choice by Dr Edith Eva Eger.
“I’ve often been asked what I consider the most important aspect of theatre. No matter how I approached the answer, I always seemed to arrive at the same conclusion: Theatre should be entertaining.
By entertainment, I don’t mean grown men with their trousers around their knees splashing beer foam on each other’s hair.
I’d define entertainment as this: if you’re sitting at a bus stop and an old man sits next to you and starts telling you his life story, would you skip the next two buses just to listen to him? And if you find his story interesting, it’s certainly not because he only shared cheerful moments, but because it stirs emotions within you. People crave this the most – to experience deep emotions. To laugh heartily, to cry profoundly.
Edit Eva Eger’s book The Choice achieves this. A 93-year-old woman (well, 92 and a half) recounts her life, filled with joy, love, and charm, until suddenly, horrors occur that sear themselves into your mind. Things that are impossible to forget or forgive. Of course, the book also reveals that if you can’t forgive, you won’t be able to move forward.
This is currently the most important story in my life. Not just because it’s my first theatrical collaboration with Réka, but also because I feel I’ve been waiting 47 years to tell this story.
We’d love for you to experience this with us. We haven’t been able to forget it since we first read it. We hope it will be the same for you.”
