Miklós Fenyő – István Tasnádi: Made in Hungária
A musical in two acts.
In the early 1960s, a typical family from Angyalföld, the Fenyő family, first emigrates and then returns to Hungary. Young Miki – known as Ricky in our story – has already absorbed everything that an American dreamer teenager could imagine: chewing gum, Marlboro, Hawaiian shirts, Ballantine’s, and above all, rock and roll. Inspired by the experiences he gained there and the influence of a fanatical record-collecting radio technician, he decides to form a band. With amplifiers cobbled together from shoeboxes and bedside tables, and a few good friends, music soon fills the air at Szent István Park, the Fémmunkás rehearsal room, and the street party on Tisza Street – and thus Hungária is born, along with the anthem Viva Rock and Roll.
