GEOBOTANICAL WALK in the protective forest around Lake Hévíz

Discover the Water Lily Nature Trail and the Canopy Lookout, and explore the unique plant and animal species of the habitat surrounding Lake Hévíz on a special walk!

In Hévíz, rainwater that fell 12,000 years ago surfaces, creating the world’s largest natural thermal lake suitable for bathing. Thanks to the unique conditions of the habitat around the warm water lake, it is home to rare plant and animal species. During our walk, we can marvel at the treasures found in the Hévíz Lake Nature Conservation Area.

How was Lake Hévíz formed, and what threats has it faced in the past? What role does the protective forest play around the lake? How can a forest be renewed in multiple steps to ensure there are always trees in the area? Why is deadwood necessary in the forest? Where do insects live, and what work do they do? What happens to our environment if we release foreign, unknown plant and animal species without control?

  • We welcome groups and individual visitors by prior arrangement. For information, contact the tour guide: Zoltán Tamás Samu +36 30 414 9009
