More information

The Rezi vineyard, located just ten minutes from Keszthely, is not just a hillside on the border of the Balaton Uplands and Zala County, but a unique little world that locals affectionately call 'Rieslingland'. And the name is no coincidence. For decades, olaszrizling has been the defining grape variety of the area, yet it takes on a distinctive character compared to other wine regions in Hungary. The region boasts an exceptional microclimate: the south-facing slopes are ideal for viticulture, and the proximity to the Alps results in higher-than-average rainfall. The nearby Lake Balaton and the Zala Hills contribute to balanced humidity, cooler nights, and a longer ripening period – all of which enhance the wines' fine acidity and aromatic richness. What makes the Rezi vineyard truly special is that it is home to small-scale, artisanal wineries rather than industrial-scale production. Winemakers personally tend to the vines, taste, ferment, and bottle the wines, each employing their own unique viticulture and winemaking techniques. Alongside classic varieties such as olaszrizling, pinot gris, and kékfrankos, more and more winemakers are planting rare or traditional Hungarian varieties like nektár, zengő, or rozália.

Czimondor Winery – Viticulture in Harmony with Nature

István Czimondor grew up immersed in the craft of winemaking, as his ancestors had been cultivating vines here on the Rezi vineyard for generations. He inherited not only the current plots but also a love of nature, the traditions of viticulture, and the fundamentals of winemaking from his family.
The cellar's offerings include the indispensable olaszrizling, as well as muscat, pinot gris, rozália, and kékfrankos, enriching the selection.
Some of the wines are aged in tanks, while others are barrel-aged. István produces only as much of each variety as he can carefully manage – ensuring the wines are always from fresh vintages, made in small batches, and easy to drink. The selection may vary by vintage, but the core varieties are consistently available.
Czimondor Winery's wines embody the essence of Rezi – and when you taste them, you'll feel it too.
