More information

Thyme Cottage – The Mecca of Herbs Magdolna Wágenhoferné Pohl – a mother of three, phytotherapist and naturopath – shares her healing knowledge and experiences by packaging them into jars and creating memorable experiences for those who wish to reconnect with nature. For her, connecting with nature and using herbs is a way of life that has been shaping her since childhood. She grew up surrounded by the world of herbs and has expanded her practical knowledge with professional expertise. In the early 2000s, she turned her focus more seriously towards herbs, consciously relearning what she had instinctively absorbed as a child. She has completed numerous training courses, including qualifications as a phytotherapist and naturopath.

Two Locations, One Mission

Thyme Cottage operates in two locations. The production site is in Karmacs, where herbs and fruits grow in the garden, and the processing also takes place there. The exhibition and sales point, however, is located in Gyenesdiás, at the Festetics Herbarium and Watermill, which is open during business hours. You can also participate in various workshops and programmes. At the Herbarium, you can enjoy a refreshing lemonade or a warming herbal tea, explore the herb demonstration garden, and, of course, purchase products from Thyme Cottage.

From Nature to the Jar

The offerings at Thyme Cottage include herbal syrups, jams, vinegars, and teas. Every product is made from home-grown or wild-harvested ingredients, prepared seasonally, without additives or preservatives, using traditional methods.
●    Syrups: More than 13 types of herbal syrups are made, including lavender, thyme, lemon balm, and plantain – using cold infusion to gently preserve the active ingredients. Noteworthy flavours include rosehip and elderflower.
●    Jams and Preserves: A wide range of fruits is used to make jams and preserves, often incorporating herbs. They are prepared traditionally, with minimal sugar and slow cooking to retain their flavours and active ingredients.
●    Teas: The cottage offers therapeutic blends and single-herb teas, catering to home remedies and everyday wellness.
●    Vinegars: Thyme Cottage's vinegar is made from apples using traditional methods, with the apples sourced from their own farm.

Experience Programmes and Herbal Tourism

Thyme Cottage is also an idyllic experience space. If you're interested in the world of herbs, you can participate in herbal tastings, garden tours, children's activities, and syrup and jam-making workshops. Additionally, you can learn about the history of the Diás Watermill and take a short walk along the educational trail starting from the St John’s Spring.

Product Highlights

Autumn’s Treasure Jam
Autumn’s Treasure Jam is a warming delight born from the harmony of three autumn fruits – apple, pear, and quince. This traditionally slow-cooked jam is flavoured with just a touch of sugar and spices (cinnamon, cloves) to preserve the distinctive taste of the fruits.
Made without additives, preservatives, or flavour enhancers – just like in grandma’s kitchen.
Not only is it delicious, but it also serves as a medicinal jam: warming and soothing, making it an excellent choice for autumn and winter mornings on toast or as a filling for baked goods.

Apple Cider Vinegar
Thyme Cottage’s apple cider vinegar is traditionally aged and made exclusively from selected apples through natural fermentation. It contains no preservatives or artificial additives – only pure, living ingredients.
Apple cider vinegar is well-known for its health benefits: it aids digestion, suppresses appetite, lowers blood sugar levels, reduces inflammation, and has mild antiseptic properties.
Recommended for daily consumption, either diluted in warm water on an empty stomach or as a salad dressing.
