Ray Cooney: Run for Your Wife

One wife starts to worry because her husband hasn’t come home on time, so she decides to contact the local police, fearing something might have happened to him. Not far from there – just a four-and-a-half-minute drive away – Barbara is also anxiously waiting at her Richmond home for her husband, John Smith, a taxi driver, who is also conspicuously late. She, too, turns to the police for help…
This is where the complications begin. It turns out that the two husbands are actually the same person: John Smith, who has been leading a double life for years, but now his secret is in jeopardy. While helping an elderly lady, he has an accident and gives the hospital the wrong address. The police, alerted by the two wives, begin an enthusiastic investigation, while John desperately shuttles between the two women to keep up appearances.
