This thematic experience tour starts from Miskolc's historic city centre and takes participants to one of the city's most unique areas, Avas, where the past and present blend seamlessly. During the programme, the city walk and gastronomic experience are closely intertwined, offering participants a comprehensive insight into Miskolc's cultural and wine heritage.
City Centre Icons: A Walk Through History and Culture
The walk begins in front of the Tourinform Office, then proceeds through the historic city centre, passing by the Szinva Terrace area and the building of the Miskolc National Theatre.
Along the route, the city's iconic landmarks come to life with stories that have shaped Miskolc's daily life, literary, and cultural scenes.
The Avasi Cellar Row: Centuries-Old Cellars and the Legacy of Miskolc's Wine Culture
The bustling city centre is soon replaced by the calmer, more nature-oriented environment of Avas. The narrow streets of the Avasi cellar row, its centuries-old cellars and press houses reveal a unique world that tells the story of Miskolc's former wine trade and winemaking past. The area is home to nearly 800 cellars, whose histories are closely intertwined with the city's development. Memories of the former entertainment district, literary connections, and personal stories further enrich the experience.
A Wine Experience in the Heart of Avas: Tasting at Local Wineries
As part of the programme, several local wineries offer tastings, where participants can discover the distinctive flavours of the wine region and the traditions of local winemaking. During the tour, the gastronomic experience and historical background complement each other, providing an opportunity to uncover the stories behind the wines.
A View Over the City: From the Avasi Lookout Tower to the Historic Churchyard
The walk concludes at the Avasi Lookout Tower, where a unique perspective of the city's panorama unfolds. From here, the route leads back to the city centre via the Avasi Reformed Church and the historic cemetery garden, heading towards Erzsébet Square.
The programme is available in English, German, Russian, Polish, and Finnish, for both individual and group tourists.
