Apollo Beach
Apollo Beach (Ștrandul Apollo) is not just another bath among many; it is the oldest and most significant outdoor bathing complex in Băile Felix and the entire region. The area's thermal water culture dates back to a Vatican document from 1221, which first mentioned the hot springs near Oradea Fortress.

The current beach traces its origins back to the flourishing spa culture of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, when affluent citizens and those seeking healing purposefully visited the wooden bathhouses built around the springs. Over the centuries, Apollo became the symbolic centre of the spa resort, retaining its historic charm even after comprehensive modern reconstructions. Thanks to extensive renovations, today's complex blends classical bathing traditions with the latest water park technologies, offering visitors both a nostalgic journey through time and 21st-century comfort.
The power of nature: Year-round operation and centuries-old healing waters
The main attraction of the complex lies in its ability to provide an outdoor bathing experience every single day of the year, thanks to the natural properties of the spring water. With the water temperature consistently high as it emerges from deep underground, Apollo Beach remains open even during the coldest winter months. Bathing in the steaming outdoor pools surrounded by snowy landscapes has become the hallmark of the beach and one of the region's most sought-after experiences. The pools are fed by 40–49 °C healing waters that do not originate from precipitation but are the result of a 200–500-year journey underground. This oligomineralised, sulphate-rich, calcium- and magnesium-enriched athermal water acquires its unique therapeutic properties deep within the karst rocks, proven to alleviate musculoskeletal issues, degenerative joint diseases, and rheumatological problems, while also effectively supporting post-surgical recovery.
Diverse experiences and family-friendly infrastructure
The design of Apollo Beach allows for the simultaneous relaxation of guests with varying needs. Separate thermal pools equipped with seating benches and hydromassage elements are available for those seeking healing and quiet relaxation, maximising the physical and chemical benefits of the water. At the same time, zones dedicated to younger visitors and families cater to pure entertainment. The complex features wave pools, lazy rivers, shallow children's pools for the little ones, and a modern slide park. The green areas and shaded trees provide pleasant relaxation even during the summer heat, making the facility a perfect symbiosis of a traditional thermal spa and a modern leisure park.
Sustainability and responsible resource management
As the thermal water extracted from underground is a finite and highly valuable natural resource, Apollo Beach places great emphasis on environmentally conscious management. Strict yield control is applied during water extraction to ensure that the pressure in the deep impermeable layers remains stable, preserving the long-term stability of the natural springs. In line with energy efficiency principles, the residual heat from the used thermal water leaving the pools is recovered using modern heat pump systems, and this energy is utilised for heating the beach's service buildings and producing domestic hot water. Additionally, the beach's water management is closely aligned with the ecological balance of the neighbouring protected natural lakes, ensuring that tourism-related water use does not endanger the local thermal water ecosystem.
