Cozmeni (in Romanian, Cozmeni) is a Székely village located in the southeastern part of Harghita County, on the edge of the Ciuc Basin, which also includes Lăzărești. The village is set in a tranquil environment surrounded by hills, with a community that still preserves a close-to-nature lifestyle and traditional rural way of life. It can be accessed by road from Băile Tușnad or Miercurea Ciuc; the nearest railway station is in Băile Tușnad. The settlement was first mentioned in writing in 1332 under the names of its patron saints, Cosmas and Damian. Its church dates back to the 15th century, built in Gothic style and later incorporating Baroque elements. Since 2004, the village has functioned as an independent administrative unit, having previously been part of Sânmartin. The village landscapes of Cozmeni and Lăzărești faithfully reflect the traditions of Székely rural architecture: the carved gates, old homesteads, and churches all stand as witnesses to the preservation of local identity. Several buildings in the village are listed as official historical monuments, including the parish house, a 19th-century Székely house, and the church. The local economy continues to be based on small-scale farming, animal husbandry, and forestry. Many families in the village are engaged in producing traditional dairy products, honey, and other homemade goods. The community is characterised by its tranquillity, sense of unity, and value preservation – festivals, customs, and religious events remain central to village life. Visitors to Cozmeni do not arrive at a developed tourist centre but rather a village where time moves more slowly, and the beauty of the landscape, along with the hospitality of the community, provides a lasting experience. For nature lovers, it offers a peaceful exploration, while those interested in culture will discover a living world of traditions.
