The settlement was originally the ancestral estate of the Kökényes-Radnót clan and remained in the family's possession even after Radnót's death in 1322. By 1439, it was part of the Buják castle estate. During the Turkish wars, in the summer of 1552, it fell under Turkish sovereignty following the capture of Buják castle. After the expulsion of the Turks, Slovaks settled in the area. From 1770 to 1848, it was owned by the Esterházy family. The village is primarily agricultural, and a stone quarry previously operated within its boundaries. The andesite columns, considered the most significant inanimate natural value of the Cserhát region, were uncovered during mining operations.
