Ischia
The town of Ischia (Comune di Ischia) is the 'urban gateway' to the island: most travellers arrive here, and it’s the easiest place to explore the harbour atmosphere, the old town walks, and the historical sights. The destination’s uniqueness lies in its two complementary districts. Ischia Porto is the lively centre with cafés, nightlife, and pedestrian streets, while Ischia Ponte offers a Mediterranean old-town charm, focusing on local identity and cultural experiences. The town’s iconic attraction is the Aragonese Castle (Castello Aragonese), connected to Ischia Ponte by a stone bridge, offering one of the most stunning panoramas of the Bay of Naples. The urban experience is perfectly complemented by the Spiaggia dei Pescatori beach with its 'city and sea' vibe, as well as the nearby Cartaromana Bay, which is popular for its warm, thermal seawater bathing experience. If you’re considering timing, the town’s highlight summer event is the Festa di Sant’Anna (26th July), which provides a strong sense of community and spectacular programmes around Ischia Ponte. From a sustainability perspective, the most important aspect in Ischia is consciously reducing the environmental impact: it’s worth travelling between central zones on foot or by local bus, visiting the most popular spots outside peak hours, and minimising waste (reusable bottles, bags). The city centre’s traffic regulation (ZTL) also aims to make the centre more liveable and pedestrian-friendly, which benefits both locals and visitors in the long run. - editorial content -
