Additional information
Horváth Hill, one of Miskolc’s most beloved green spaces, has a long history. Its development began in the latter half of the 19th century, addressing the disorganized areas between the northern cellars of Avas and the vineyards and orchards on the southern slopes. Both local cellar owners and city residents pushed for improvements. The landscaping efforts were supported by Captain Lucián Musitzky's engineering team, who had previously helped create Népkert park. Lajos Horváth, a member of parliament, donated 1,000 forints to support the project, and the area was named Horváth Hill in his honor. During the construction of the hanging garden, paths were widened, steps were built, lookout points were established, and trees were planted. However, before World War I, maintaining Horváth Hill became challenging, slowing its development. The plan proposed by the Borsodi Bükk Association was only partially realized, but Horváth Hill still became one of the city’s largest tourist areas. Today, Horváth Hill has once again become a popular retreat for the residents of Miskolc. The garden terraces accommodate various activities, with playgrounds, sunbathing areas, a skate park, and an outdoor gym, offering recreational options for all ages.
