AllAdventure with Responsibility
We believe that travel can be a transformative and positive experience for both travelers and the destinations they visit. However, with great adventures comes great responsibility.
Sustainability, simply put, means making choices that have a positive impact on the environment, local communities, and society as a whole. We aim to travel in a way that leaves the world in a better condition than we found it. At I-DEST, we are committed to helping you make informed decisions that align with these principles.
As you explore the services featured on this page, you will discover how our partners strive for sustainability. We will show you their level of sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) they support. But this is about more than just symbols and labels. Sustainability is a journey in itself, and we are here to accompany you every step of the way. Discover how you can travel responsibly, minimize your environmental footprint, support local cultures, and contribute to a better world.

AllMake an informed decision!
Choosing sustainable destinations and services plays a crucial role in ensuring that travel is not just an experience but also a force for positive change. By opting for sustainable destinations, we can reduce our ecological footprint, as these locations are committed to protecting natural resources, improving energy efficiency, and minimizing waste. Supporting local communities allows travelers to directly contribute to strengthening the local economy, creating jobs, and preserving cultural heritage. As a result, travel offers not only authentic experiences for visitors but also long-term benefits for local communities.
How Do We Measure Sustainability?
At i-dest.com, sustainability in tourism is assessed through a transparent methodology aligned with internationally recognised principles. The evaluation is based on the criteria of the GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council), which examine environmental, social, economic and governance aspects, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). All destinations, attractions and service providers are assessed using a unified framework. The results are presented through a 1–4 level sustainability rating, offering a quick and comparable overview of overall performance, while also showing percentage scores by thematic area to highlight strengths and areas for improvement.
In addition to numerical and visual indicators, I-DEST places strong emphasis on clear, accessible explanations. For each location, we describe what the destination or service provider actively does to support sustainability—such as nature conservation, support for local communities or responsible operations—and what visitors can do to make conscious, environmentally and socially responsible choices during their travels.

Few people consider that the everyday decisions we make as tourists can not only protect our own physical and mental well-being but also significantly support the health and quality of life of the local residents in the countries we visit.

Eat Local! The Tastiest Side of Sustainability Lies in Local Flavours 2026 July 05 During our travels, the deepest cultural experiences often come not from museums but from what's on our plates. One of the most enjoyable and easiest steps towards sustainable tourism is conscious gastronomy. By choosing local farmers' markets, family-run eateries, and regional wineries over imported ingredients and global fast-food chains, you directly support the local community. Plus, your food hasn’t travelled halfway around the world to reach your plate, keeping your ecological footprint minimal. It’s a true win-win situation, which we’ll also celebrate in our upcoming stamp-collecting game.

The Reality Behind the Stone Tower Insta-Trend: Why This Seemingly Harmless Hobby Harms Nature 2026 June 25 You're scrolling through Instagram or TikTok, and a magical photo catches your eye: on the banks of a rushing mountain stream, in the glow of the setting sun, towers of perfectly balanced, stacked stones rise up. Aesthetic, calming, slightly spiritual, and incredibly 'photogenic'. It's no wonder more and more hikers feel compelled to build one themselves and capture the moment. Building stone towers along riverbanks and in forests has become a global Insta-trend. However, there's a huge problem: while they look great in photos, they actually cause significant ecological damage. Why does this seemingly harmless hobby pose a threat to nature, and why are national parks around the world asking us to stop?

Leave No Trace! The 7 Golden Rules for Responsible Hiking 2026 June 23 When we leave the bustling cities and head towards forests and mountains, we are all seeking the same things: fresh air, undisturbed silence, untouched landscapes, and the calming closeness of nature. But have we ever considered how much of an impact our mere presence has on these fragile ecosystems? A tent pitched in the wrong spot, straying off a path and trampling tiny plants, or carelessly discarded food scraps all leave invisible scars on the wilderness.

Pack Less, Travel Lighter! The Secrets of Minimalist Packing and a Capsule Wardrobe 2026 June 22 There's a classic travel scenario we all know too well: kneeling on the tarmac in the middle of the airport, desperately trying to rearrange your suitcase because the check-in desk revealed you're two kilos over the weight limit. Or the other extreme: sweating in the middle of a beautiful, cobblestoned old town, dragging a massive wheeled monstrosity behind you, wishing with every step you'd left half your belongings at home. Statistics show that tourists don't use at least 30-40% of the clothes and items they bring with them on holiday.

Digital Detox in Nature: How to Switch Off Your Phone and Truly Connect with the World 2026 June 21 As modern travellers, we live with a rather peculiar dependency: we feel that if we don’t capture a moment with our phone or instantly share it on social media, it’s as if the moment never happened. We stand on the world’s most breathtaking mountain peaks, deep in ancient forests, or by a crystal-clear stream, and instead of breathing in the fresh air, we’re staring at our screens. Notifications, pinging emails, and the endless scrolling of news feeds keep us captive even during our holidays. Our brains remain in a constant state of alertness, turning the much-anticipated rest into just another source of digital stress.
