More information
The Miskolctapolca Cave Bath is one of the city's most popular attractions, offering a unique experience for visitors. The tradition of bathing in Tapolca dates back to the Middle Ages, with the natural thermal springs serving locals and visitors for centuries. Opened in 1959, the Cave Bath is unique in Europe, as guests can bathe in natural cave chambers carved into limestone rocks while relaxing in the pleasant, healing waters of the karst springs. The cave was formed by the erosive action of flowing water, resulting in warm water pools, tunnel-like passages, and natural cave walls within its interior. The bath's 31°C water contains calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate, and other minerals that have therapeutic effects on musculoskeletal, respiratory, and cardiovascular conditions. Over the decades, the Cave Bath has undergone several expansions and modernisations, and now offers modern wellness services and a sauna park for visitors. Its surroundings are also appealing, featuring a relaxation park, boating lake, and adventure park. Awarded the title of Bath of the Year in 2016, the Cave Bath is a favourite among locals and tourists alike, who always enjoy a dip in this extraordinary natural wonder when visiting Miskolctapolca. In 2024, the Cave Bath tragically burned down and will remain closed until renovation works are completed.
