More information
The Szeleta Park Visitor Centre invites its guests on a true journey through time, where the wonders of history and nature meet. Opened in December 2023, the centre is the newest and largest exhibition site of the Bükk National Park, offering unique experiences for both children and adults. The statue of a giant mammoth in front of the building already hints that here, you can travel back in time to the Ice Age. The visitor centre is named after the nearby Szeleta Cave, a significant site for prehistoric research in Hungary. Upon entering the building, the exhibition titled "Millennial Secrets of Bükk Caves" guides visitors through the geology and prehistory of the Bükk Mountains. Visitors can learn about the life of prehistoric humans, the Szeleta culture, and view original stone tools. The interactive exhibition allows you to explore how caves were formed and how karst water functions. A spectacular LED wall showcases the fascinating world of Bükk's caves. During this journey through time, you can encounter mammoth tusks, cave lions, and a life-sized statue of a massive cave bear. The night sky projected onto the ceiling evokes the starry skies of old times, while also raising awareness about the harmful effects of light pollution. For children, the Stone Age Karst Adventure playhouse offers unforgettable experiences, where they can cross suspension bridges and try their hand at archaeology. Next to the visitor centre, a herb garden, a geological park, and the Szinva nature trail await nature enthusiasts.
