Hungarian Museum of Technology and Transport Metallurgical Museum

Discover the heritage of iron culture in the historic building of Felsőhámor, with hands-on dioramas and working models!

The mission of the Metallurgical Museum in Miskolc-Felsőhámor is to present the heritage of iron culture to a wider audience. Through its permanent exhibition in the Baroque historic building, visitors can uncover the secrets of iron production and processing.

The Massa Museum in Újmassa, part of the Metallurgical Museum, showcases the century-long history of the Diósgyőr-Hámor Ironworks and the activities of the Fazola family, who played a significant role in the factory's life. Next to the museum building stands one of Hungary's most significant industrial monuments, the only surviving blast furnace: the block of the "Fazola Furnace." The surrounding area of the reconstructed waterwheel-powered forge (hámor) often echoes with the strikes of the large hammer. Across the bubbling Garadna stream, the open-air museum of machinery used in iron metallurgy and mining captures the attention of visitors.

The historic buildings maintained by the museum offer a rich collection of artefacts, historical and technical documents, as well as elements of intangible heritage for those interested.
