The Diósgyőr Paper Mill has created a unique paper history exhibition from its historical relics to preserve tradition and safeguard its professional heritage. This collection is the gem of the factory and is considered a curiosity among the city's tourist attractions. The exhibition traces the history and development of papermaking from its invention to the present day, showcasing modern paper production and the factory's more than 230-year history. Our valuable and long-standing heritage obliges us to nurture, preserve, and pass on the legacy of our predecessors and the traditions of the profession. Visitors can view images, models, diagrams, certificates, authentic documents, period quality control tools, and a film showcasing the current production process, providing a comprehensive insight into one of the oldest professions – the art of papermaking. The exhibition also includes a banknote display, presenting banknotes produced on Diósgyőr paper from 1920 to the latest series. These can also be viewed under UV light, significantly enhancing the visibility of various security features. In addition to various machines, tools, and original documents, the highlight of the exhibition is a paper-dipping workshop equipped with period-accurate furnishings based on an 18th-century design, evoking the atmosphere of bygone times. Visitors can witness the manual papermaking process and see the dipping screens used to create unique papers. For over a century, Diósgyőr's papermaking masters used this technique to produce the special paper that brought the factory significant success and renown. Adventurous visitors – with prior arrangement – can personally try their hand at paper-dipping and experience the practical challenges of this craft. Opening hours: By prior arrangement only!
